Supporting and Engaging Students from Low-SES Backgrounds
There are existing inequities of groups who are underserved and underrepresented in Computer Science, the tech fields, and Computer Science Education courses. These include students with LOW SES (socioeconomic status) backgrounds.
SES encompasses not just income but also educational attainment, financial security, and subjective perceptions of social status and social class.
SES can encompass quality of life attributes as well as the opportunities and privileges afforded to people within society.
Low SES and its correlates, such as lower educational achievement, poverty and poor health, ultimately affect our society.
Who is Engaged?
How can we help address the educational needs of our Low SES students and ENGAGE them?
